2019 SPRING FAVORITES
Maybe it’s just me, but things have felt a little intense on Negative (N)ellie, as of late. Although I love writing about my amazing spiritual experiences, it can be kind of draining! It is so hard to express exactly how you were feeling in those tender moments. Plus, it can be kind of intimidating to write about such important topics, because you hope that your words will somehow bring others closer to Christ. So, with all of the pressure I have been putting on myself the last few weeks, I have decided to do more of a fun post (not that the other ones aren’t fun, just a liiiitttllleee stressful 😊). It’s important to be a little silly sometimes, and I feel I have fulfilled that assignment with this post. Go me!
Ahh, Spring. Spring is actually one of my least favorite seasons of the year. I am not really a big flower person, and the New Mexico wind, man! Can you guys even believe how awful it was on Wednesday? However, there have been a few things that I have been loving this Spring Season. Not many of them actually equate to Spring Time, but we will just have to take what we can get.
Running Outside
We are comin’ in hot with a favorite that actually relates to Spring! I hate running outside in the Winter. You have to layer, you can barely breathe, it is FA-REEZING, and yet, I still have to put on sunscreen! So, to combat that hatred, I tend to run inside on the treadmill, which as you can guess, gets real old, real fast. One of my favorite things about New Mexico is that Spring usually comes early, which means so does running outside. It is so nice to run outside, wave to neighbors, and breathe in the fresh air. Plus running in the New Mexico wind really builds up that endurance! The warm air helps me to justify my application of sunscreen, and seeing the sun just brightens up your day. Plus, you don’t have to go at like six in the morning like you do in the Summer! Ok, rant over. I love Spring Running 😊
The Lord of the Rings
So, I obviously came into The Lord of the Rings real late in the game. The Stinker has been trying to convince me to read this series for years, and I brushed him off every time. However, after he came home from his mission, he somehow convinced me to read them (those return missionary powers are strong!). Of course, I have come to the same conclusion that everyone else has, I love it! Per the usual, the Stinker was right, and I should have listened to his suggestions way earlier. However, it is not how late you start, but that you finish, right?😉
Fußball
So, I am not sure if this really counts, since this is technically one of my favorites all year round. However, Spring is definitely one of my four favorite seasons of soccer. The games just look happier. You kind of feel bad for the players all bundled up in the cold (especially in Germany), trying to win the game for you. The warm air just gives a more pleasant vibe to the beautiful game. Spring time is also when all of the hard work pays off! The end of the season means fierce battles for titles, and every single game matters, which makes it so much fun to watch! Plus, Spring fußball leads to Summer fußball, which makes me think of the best Summer of my life, the Summer of 2014 😉 So, yeah. I love Spring fußball.
Up-Dos
I have been working for what feels like forever to grow my hair out (shocker, I should have listened to my mom when she told me not to cut it in eighth grade. How is she always right?). I have finally managed to get it right about where I want it, of course as soon as the New Mexico hot and windy season is about to kick in. Can I just share with you that windblown hair is NOT all that the Hollywood makes it out to be? It gets all tangled, it SMELLS like wind (my fellow New Mexicans know what I mean), it gets in your mouth, it is just not a good look. Since wearing your hair down is not exactly much of an option, I have been loving me a good updo. Braids, buns, ponytails, anything to get that hair out my mouth and off of my neck.
My Favorite Water
Water is not my absolute favorite thing to drink. However, as a runner, I kinda really need it. So, sometimes I need to spice up my boring water to make myself drink it! My absolute favorite fruit add-ins to water is the combination of strawberries, lemon, and mint! I know it sounds kind of funky, but it is really good, and has a real Spring/Summery feel to it. My mom and I discovered this concoction during the best summer of my life (Summer 2014, in case you didn’t know), and now anytime I want to feel some Summer Vibes, I drink this deliciousness. Since it evokes feelings of Summer, I know it is weird to include it in my Spring favorites, but this time of year is always the time I get an itch for it. (Remember, this is a judgement free zone on Negative (N)ellie!)
Look at that! A lot of those actually did have to do with Spring. 10 points to Negative (N)ellie! I’m not going to lie, it was really fun to write this silly blog. I know it probably won’t have any major impact on anyone’s life (although, it may convince someone to read The Lord of the Rings), but it was a nice change of pace. Don’t worry, the Lord is constantly teaching me lessons and showing me tender mercies, so there will be many more of those blogs to come! Happy Spring, Everyone!
