GOOD MOMENTS
Lately, I have been in quite the funk. Does this happen to anyone else? You just get in a mood, where it is not like things are bad, but you just feel kind of ehh. (No? Just me? Can’t say I am really surprised by that fact.) Now, the old Negative (N)ellie would have wallowed in that ehh feeling, and really let it run the next couple of days of her life. Not anymore! That’s right! I’ve changed, I’ve grown! Instead of focusing on my blah mood, I’ve decided to use this blog to talk about the good that has been happening around me. (this blog idea was DEFINETLEY an answer to prayer y’all!) In the world today, it can be so easy to pick out negative things that are happening in the world around us, and in our own personal lives. However, picking out experiences I have had with good people over the last few months instantly brought a smile to my face, and I hope it does the same for you. So, without further ado, here are four GOOD moments I noticed over the last few months.
THE PRAYER BOX
When I applied for my job, I had no idea I was about to begin working with the world’s greatest gift givers! (I probably should have recognized it through their personalities, but I didn’t) They may or may not have blindsided me with incredible Christmas gifts this past year, and I may or may not have had to get them New Year’s Eve gifts to make up for the subpar gift I gave them for Christmas, Peanut Butter Fudge. I figured my new gifts had put me in the clear, and I would not have to worry about gifts again until Christmas. Once again, I was wrong. I walked in on Valentines Day, to find FOUR new presents for me! Guess who showed up empty handed?!? Yup, me. And once again, my co-workers outdid me in the gift-giving department. I loved all of the sweet presents, but my boss gave me one of the coolest gifts I have ever received: a prayer box. This box allows me to right down some of my most sincere, heartfelt, aching prayers, and keep them in a safe place, where I can read them later. What a special gift! I am forever grateful for where I work and the people I work with. I do not deserve them!
THE FUNDRAISER
Every year at church, we do a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser to help the Youth raise money for their summer church camps. This is the first year I have been really in-depth in helping to plan it, and let me tell you, it is one of the most stressful situations I have ever been apart of. It almost broke me, but I am proud to say I made it through alive and am able to testify of the wonderful people we have in our little congregation. First off, I am not going to lie, the youth surprised me. I was a little nervous that we were not organized enough to get everything done, but those youth really came through. They had incredible ideas, were really willing to get in there and help, and actually seemed to have fun. Second, our church family are literal angels. So many people were willing to help and contribute their talents to help pull that sucker off, and they donated so much to help the kids reach their goal. I was literally in awe of the amazing people we have around us. Thanks, guys! We could not have done it without each and every one of you.
THE EASTER EGG HUNT
The sweet little stinker I babysit had an Easter Party last week, which of course includeda recital and an Easter Egg Hunt. As she stared at me from the stage, rolling her eyes at me and making fun of my dance moves, I remember thinking, “What a little toot!”. Well, I am here to testify that she is definitely a toot, but she sure is a sweet one. As the kids lined up to go and hunt for eggs, they were instructed with an exact number of eggs they were allowed to find. That little stinker ran out there as fast as she could, and quickly found her allotted number of eggs. Did she then run back inside with her treasures, happy she had completed her task? Nope. She remained outside, helping three of her classmates find their allotted number of eggs. Now, I am in NO (I REPEAT, NO!!!!!) hurry to have kids, but witnessing her sweet act of kindness, I can see how they get ya! It ALMOST counteracted the eyerolling 😉.
PINEWOOD DERBY
The other Stinker in my life (Stinker the Elder?), is getting ready to head off to college soon, and it is definitely a bittersweet feeling in our household. Although we are excited to see him tackle those awesome dreams he has, I am going to be a little disappointed to not have someone to share our parents’ focus with 😉. So, with his time growing shorter, we have been attempting to do all of the fun family activities we can, while still allowing the Stinker to enjoy his free time the way he would like to (cause we’re kind like that). Even with his limited free time, he still took the opportunity to serve last week (still in missionary mode). He helped the little stinker make a Pinewood Derby Car for the race, cutting it out all by himself, and letting her paint it a beautiful pink/gold/purple/lightning aesthetic. I have never seen that little girl so excited then when she brought her OWN car into the race. The Big Stinker truly made the little stinker’s day.
So, there are four instances I have observed that have really put a little joy back in my heart. I hope they were able to do the same for you. It can be so easy to focus all of our attention on the negative things in this world, since there are quite a few of them. However, once one really stops and looks for the good in this world, it is oh so easy to find. Plus! Thinking of all of the moments of good in your life can really turn a mood, or a day, around. Happy Searching!
